A 45-year-old male presented to our hospital in June 2013 with 3 days of unremitting fever which was subsequently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He underwent five courses of chemotherapy and then had allogenic bone marrow transplantation in Jan 2014. As the result, he developed generalized dry skin with pruritis, early satiety and severe weight loss, fatigue, periorbital darkness and abdominal bloating. He was referred to the Chinese medicine department where he was assessed and started on a course of traditional Chinese herbal formula, Rhubarb & Eupolyphaga. At 2 months follow up, he had complete resolution of all symptoms with moist and shinny skin and had regained 8 KGs of body weight. Furthermore, there was no recurrence of skin pruritis at the latest follow up at 4 months. |
