Hou Xi (1654-1720), courtesy name (Chinese:字, zi) Tsan Chen, was a composer of Ci lyrics who lived in Wuxi. He was the editor of Ci Poetry of Liang Xi, a collection of Ci lyric works composed by Liang Xi poets. There are currently four versions of Ci Poetry of Liang Xi as follows: the 21-series and 8-series versions are collected in Tsuei Shu Guan(Kangxi Period). There are also two 19-series transcripts in Miao Quansun's Yun Lun Ge and Sun Zu Ji's Yu Jian Tang. In 2011, Wuxi Wen Ku published a 27-series version of Ci Poetry of Liang Xi based on the previous 21-series version. The lack of 25 lyrics and poets was complemented by other versions of Ci Poetry of Liang Xi. This study aims to complement the missing lyrics and correct the variations for Qing Ci Lyrics (Shun-Kang Period) and The Complement for Qing Ci Lyrics (Shun-Kang Period). There are 37 uncollected Ci lyrics complemented into this edition as follows: four written by Wang Ren Hao, two by Du Zhao, and eight by Gu Zhen Li. As for the variations, those 15 Ci lyrics of Huan Hua Ci written by Du Zhao differ from the version collected in Qing Ci Lyrics (Shun-Kang Period). There are doubts that the lyrics collected in Ci Poetry of Liang Xi were written by Du Zhao at a younger age; Qing Ci Lyrics (Shun-Kang Period), on the other hand, collects the complementary version of the same lyrics from Yun Chuan Ge Ji. The variations of Du Zhao's writing style and strategies can be further discussed through the comparison of variations. |
