VR technology has an important value in experiment simulation, skill training, experiential learning, observational learning, operation exercises and so on. VR technology can break through the limitation of the traditional teaching learning environment, creating a very realistic situation, bringing about a strong sense of immersion. VR technology has rich and natural interactive modes and its advantages are able to enhance learning experience, stimulate learning motivation and promote situational cognition as well as knowledge transfer. As an emerging technology, its application in education is far behind the development of VR technology, and the application needs the support of the corresponding mode and theory. Particularly, on how to build experiential learning environment based on VR technology lacks theory basis, and still remain in the experience and intuition levels. Therefore, on the basis of the analysis of experiential learning, situated cognition and constructivism learning theory, combining with the 3I (immersion, interactivity, imagination) features, this paper makes a detailed discussion on the design strategy including principles, learning elements, situation design, activity design, interaction design and establishes an open and flexible frame for the design of experiential learning environment. Guided by the strategy and frame, a design case for the biology Bacillus subtilis experiential learning environment based on VR is developed. The application shows that experiential learning environment based on VR technology has great potential in education. It can enhance interest and motivation of learning, reinforcement learning experience, and promote knowledge and situated learning. |
