Patients scheduled for head and neck surgery needed general anesthesia with nasotracheal intubation to provide easy approach of surgical field. Nasotracheal intubation is a safe and common technique in anesthetic practice. However, nasal ala pressure sore has been occasionally reported with the use of this technique. It is more likely a complication of prolonged nasotracheal intubation and usually occurs postoperatively. The severity and pain of the injury were usually minor and were often ignored by physicians. In this study, we use Duoderm, a skin dressing helping to protect the wound against external contamination, as a cushion material from direct compression of right-angle endotracheal tube (RAET) to the nasal mucosa. |
