As the economy grows and the life quality improves, human beings are paying more and more attention on the 5th vital sign-- pain. At the era of 21th century, many physicians still lack in proper knowledge to prescribe adequate analgesics for patients; some pains are even ignored due to severe misconceptions. Therefore, how to reduce and even cure pain, both acute and chronic, for the sufferers, is an important issue in daily medical practice, particularly for anesthesiologists and pain clinicians alike. Not surprisingly, in this issue of Acta Anaesthesiologica Taiwanica, Wu et al. found that most of the physicians showed inadequate knowledge of pharmacological management of cancer pain (PMCP). In fact, the deficit of PMCP knowledge influences physicians' prescriptions on opioids for the simulated cases. |
