News from Taiwan Libraries(Vol.46 No.3)

The New Taipei City Main Library was inaugurated in May 2015. It has nine floors. Each floor presents a different theme according to the needs of young people, the elderly and the ethnic groups. In the world study area, it presents cultural resources not only of Taiwanese aborigines, new immigrants and the world, there is also a New Taipei Memory Center for people to learn more about the history of New Taipei City. Furthermore, the library provides 24-hour self-service machines enabling the patrons to borrow and return books. It is Taiwan’s first 24- hour service library. This is made possible with a 7 meters automated stocker system which can accommodate 2,059 books. It is Taiwan’s largest smart self-service machine. The reader has only to make an appointment through the Internet to borrow books and will be able to get the book requested even in the middle of the night.
