2007 Edition of Chinese Book Classification Scheme Completed
The ninth edition of the “Chinese Book Classification Scheme” edited by Lai Yung-hsiang was finalized on June 30, 2007, after a six-year effort involving nearly 200 people. The new edition will first be published on the Standards for Chinese Subject Cataloging System (http://catbase.ncl.edu.tw), with a print version to follow by the end of the year.
Apart from revisions to account for academic developments and national publications, the biggest change made to the classification scheme is the upgrading of Taiwan’s category level. For example, Taiwan history and geography, Taiwanese literature has been placed under Far Western literature, the local Taiwanese dialect has been placed in a separate category under Eastern language, and Taiwan biographies have been made independent of China biographies. |
