As medical technology advances, the operating rooms contain more and more complex and costly instruments. The professionals have more workload than ever, and interns and new medical staffs are frustrated in facing so many and complicated instruments. Due to the fact that the surgical training is expensive and time-consuming, training and education in the surgery is an area where computation is needed. This paper focuses upon the educational issues for the medical staff who operates the instruments. We develop a web-based computer-assisted system to support the teaching and training of the operators. First, we use Object-Oriented (OO) method to explore the relationship among the surgical packages and instruments and then build an object model for them. The user can interactively get the specification, usage and images of the surgical instruments with easy accessibility. He can have a test for evaluating the effects of the learning. The system records the users' learning status and performance in the tests. A learning achievement evaluation strategy, based on the importance, difficulty and occurring frequency pertaining to the instruments, is proposed. With this system, hospitals are able to assist interns, paramedics and instrument supplying personnel in pre-vocational and on-vocational education and then improve the quality of operations. |
