In general, the outcome of an on-site education delivered to the patient who has just completed the course of OPD Chemotherapy is not promising. It may be due to the reason that the stay of patient is short, or that the clinical staffs' schedule are tight, or that the patient's comprehension ability is varied. However, the follow-up phone contacts always make the patient's education reinforced and more effective. The Mobile Decision Support System includes any computer facilities that can access the Internet, such as Notebook, Tablet PC, Personal Digital Assistant or Smart Phone, and can play the role to provide the sustained and cost-effective services of nursing while the oncology nurse supports the patient to deal with the health problems experienced. As a result, the life-threatening crisis may be avoided if the patient is able to consult the nursing staff by a call or e-mail at the early appearance of any symptom or adverse event. This study is therefore designed to develop and standardize the supporting system of nursing for the oncology patient who experiences an adverse event at home which was derived from the given OPD chemotherapy. It is a nurse-specific Decision Support System (DSS) of evaluating, suggesting, and managing to an adverse event derived from the given OPD chemotherapy. After capturing the integrated patient's chief complaints, the developed DSS is able to triage and grade the adverse events and to provide the problem-solving suggestion of nursing to the patient. |
