According to Peace Treaty of San Francisco, the Japanese government declared to "renounce all right, title and claim to Formosa and the Pescadores". However, it left so many ambiguities regarding Taiwan's legal status since the Treaty did not define which party owns the legal title of Taiwan. The GA Resolution 2758 in 1971, on the other hand, did not solve the sovereign issue of Taiwan either; instead, it only dealt with the issue concerning the legal representative of China in the UN. Nevertheless, with the time goes by, the legal status of Taiwan has evolved from an occupied territory to a sovereign and democratic state that is distinguishable from China, but yet to be normalized. |
