Admission to the critical care setting can be a traumatic experience for a child and his or her parents. Besides providing physical care, the nurses should assess the psychological and emotional responses of the children and their parents. By integrating the child's psychosocial development and the principles of family-centered care into critical care nursing, the impacts of emergency admission on hospitalized children and their families can be reduced in order to facilitate adaptation on the part of the families. |
