Health care providers always experience high stress in the emergency department. They are first in line in dealing with various acute and critical emergencies. Health care providers are exposed to a high risk of violence if patients and their families are dissatisfied with the environment or service of the emergency department. It is therefore important that health care providers who work in emergency departments adopt a positive attitude toward understanding, recognizing and coping with violence. This text aims to present the recognition of violence, including the definition of violence, reasons for occurrence, influence on health care providers and how to deal with the problem at hand. Accordingly, health care providers would learn how to recognize and avoid potentially violent situations and to attach importance to this issue. In this way health care providers can prevent the occurrence of violence and reduce injuries caused by violence. |
