Dyspnea is as uncomfortable as pain. In daily living, most patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease suffer from dyspnea. Their physical function and activity tolerance are limited. In recent years massage therapy has generally received greater attention and wider application. In many foreign nursing units, staff are currently being trained to apply massage in their daily nursing care as a treatment which is complementary to conventional nursing. Acupressure, which combines the knowledge of massage and acupuncture principles of Chinese Medicine, is a kind of massage. It has the effect of promoting relaxation, relieving dyspnea, and enhancing immunity, and the characteristics of being economic, safe, and freely useasce. Acupressure is suitable for development as a clinical intervention to relieve dyspnea. Therefore, acupressure concepts, manipulation, therapeutic time, force control, and the acupoints related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are introduced in the article, for the infermation of clinical nurses for programming acupressure protocol for relief of dyspnea. It is hoped that this independent intervention to resolve patients' dyspnea problems can be truly applied if conformed by research. |
