The purpose of this study is to examine the experience of nursing a 3-year-old boy receiving toe to hand surgery. Nursing assessment was based on the framework of Gordon's functional evaluation. Data was collected by participant observation and interview. Three health problems, including fear, pain and impaired physical mobility, were found. During the period of care, play and communication skills were used appropriately. It helped the patient to express the fear in his mind. This nursing experience can help nurses to earlier understand the problems of similar cases. It also can help nurses to build up trust and the nurse-patient relationship. The nursing experience from this case study can help nurses who will take care of similar cases, and thereby promote quality of nursing care and provide continuity of care. |
