Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammatory condition in which the skin overproduces skin cells and sebum, the skin's natural oil. Seborrheic dermatitis usually occurs in areas of the body that have many oil-producing glands, including the scalp, face, upper chest, and back. In infants, seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp is often called 'cradle cap.' This causes redness and greasy scales, most commonly on the scalp, but also on the face, ears, neck, and in the diaper area. Although it is unlike in adults, the cause of infantile seborrheic dermatitis is not clearly defined as well. Besides, cradle cap is usually appears within the first 6 weeks of life. The condition may slowly resolve itself over a few weeks whilst in others it may continue for 6 to 9 months or much longer. Although the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis can be effectively controlled with drugs or herbal medicine therapy for a span of time, recurrent and lingering conditions often occurred. It is thought that infection is far from the only causality in this troublesome condition. We can find the effective therapies proved by some clinical trials with traditional medicine from evidence-medicine database. |
