According to the statistics conducted by Centers for Disease Control, ROC, the mortality of severe complicated influenza in 2016 was the highest in the recent three years. Different culture, language, and environmental adaptation change, will put more stress on the foreign patients during the period of hospitalization. The purpose of this article was to explore a nursing experience in intensive care unit for a foreign patient with severe complicated influenza. From February 9 to 18, 2016, data were collected through observation, interview, and chart review according to the holistic assessment. The major problems identified included ineffective airway clearance, hyperthermia, and fear. By providing interdisciplinary teamwork to jointly develop and implement treatment planning, the author improved the patient' health problems of ineffective airway clearance and hyperthermia. Through drawing figure cards, translation software, and transcultural care, the author resolved the fear of the patient. Hopefully, this nursing experience can serve as a reference for the care of such patients. |
