EoLC (end-of-life care) is not only an art but also a science. EOLC is part of Hospice, especially in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where deaths happen frequently. According to the study, 80% of people passed away in hospitals. Taiwan government passed the medical policy of Hospice and Palliative Care in 2011, which allows the terminal patients to have their free will to choose not receiving invasive treatments at the end of life (EoL). Owning to the advanced technologies, life expectancy has been extended. However the quality Of EoLC dropped sharply. Therefore this study used the concept of Hospice to establish a 'medical team of ICU-EoLC'. In order to improve the quality of EoL, some education and equipment associated with palliative care are utilized to promote this policy. Thus the purpose of standing on the patients' dignities can be reached. |
