Establishing a Web-based Video System for Tele-Solicitude

本研究建立一個以視訊影音為媒介的遠距關懷系統，讓親友、醫護與社工人員能和老年人在排定之影音會談室裡進行即時的多向溝通，藉由網路視訊來關懷老年人的生活情形，克服距離的障礙。本遠距視訊關懷系統以網頁為基礎建置而成，主要分為網頁管理與影音會談室兩部份：網頁管理部份負責基本個人資料與行事曆之管理，包含會談的排程；影音會談室提供多人影音會談與影音錄製、擷圖服務，並具有影像圖片共享與電子白板繪圖之功能，可作為解說的工具。一般能連上網際網路的電腦都有安裝含Flash Player 的瀏覽器，不必安裝其他軟體或外掛程式即可使用本系統。在有線與無線網路環境下測試，本系統視訊畫面的清晰程度都在可辨識範圍，音訊辨識上也有 99% 以上的正確率，因此兩類網路環境皆可適用本系統。除了作為遠距視訊關懷之用，本系統也適用於所有需要文字、影像、視訊溝通的機構或團體。參與者可以用一般的上網端末裝置，透過本系統平台，隨處舉行會談，增加便利性與效率。

An online video system for tele-solicitude is established in this study. The elderly, their families, care givers, social workers, and the medical staff can have real-time multi-way communication at scheduled time using this system. Solicitude is expressed to the elderly through video service of this system without the distance barrier. It is a web-based system and consists of two parts: website management sub-system and the video-conferencing room. The former part takes charge of the management of users’ personal data and calendar, including conference scheduling. The video-conferencing room holds conference on the web. Video conferencing among multi-users can be conducted in the room and the video/audio data can be recorded in the server. Users who join the same conferencing room may share common images. And the video-conferencing room is possessed with electronic whiteboard to facilitate discussion. All personal computers and devices installed with web browsers and Flash players can access this system. There is no additional software or plug-ins needed. Various tests were performed under wired and wireless network environments. Video data in the tests were all recognizable. Audio data in the tests all had recognition rate higher than 99%. These show that our system can be used in either wired or wireless environment. In addition to the usage for solicitude, the developed system is suitable for institution sand groups which need a platform to communicate using texts, images, and video. By adopting the developed system, all participants with online terminal devices can join conferences from anywhere. The convenience and efficiency are thus improved.
