Background: Telephone-nursing care is a virtual visits. The lack of face-to-face communication could lead to message omission or lost (estimated at 50%), and in turn misinterpret the callers' instructions or the speakers' understanding. The discrepancy in understanding could adversely influence nurse's decision, and patient's compliance, satisfaction, and safety. Purpose: Develop conceptual knowledge and research hypothesis on telephone-nursing care through concept analysis. Methods: Applying concept analysis using Norris method on data from clinical interviews and observation to analyze the virtual visit phenomenon, and to conduct a systematic literature review to summarize and interpret the clinical phenomenon. Results: The summary and interpretation formed 3 levels, 5 categories, and 63 attributes. The 5 categories are accessibility, security; the consequence on nursing profession from the derivation of technology; development opportunities for nursing profession from the introduction of technology; monitoring and tracking; and support network. Conclusion: Telephone -Nursing care is a virtual visit composed of five categories. The knowledge built upon its attributes is could serve as a research foundation to the beginning of nursing study on a whole new level. |
