Esophageal cancer is a devastating disease with prolonged treatment course. Patients' nutritional status and physical function are substantially deteriorated during treatment, which often led to declines in quality of life and emotional well-being. Little is known regarding the management of problems during cancer treatment in esophageal cancer patients. This article briefly overviews the problems during cancer treatment for patients with esophageal cancer, including malnutrition, physical function declines, and postoperative pulmonary complications. The main management strategies involved nutritional maintenance, increasing physical activity and improve pulmonary functions before surgery. We hope by increasing the awareness among professionals, early detection and timely intervention could be taken to improve the ability and quality of care. |
