The aim of the study was to explore the applicability of wearable devices in the racing sport. Method: three subjects are involved the study. All subjects were equipped with custom-made wearable devices attached on left hip joint to measure their total body activities while running on the circular route of Sun Moon Lake, 29 Km in distance with varied attitude changes. One was equipped with additional GPS device. The results are as follows: Two major findings were found in this study. Firstly, the results showed that wearable devices could provide information of speed with respect to uphill and downhill racing. It also could be used to detect the user’s relative speed difference between the initial stage and the final stage of the racing event. Secondly, the user installed with a wearable device was detected to decrease his racing speed in the final stage as compared with his racing speed in the initial stage. However, the wearable device used in this study could not sensitively provide information in cadence and total working capacity. The paper thus concludes that wearable device could be used to explore the racing skill of long run sports. So far, the device has been able to provide the user’s relative speed difference between the initial stage and the final stage of the racing event. The future study should focus on upgrading related techniques in order to collect more applicable and informative data. |
