Background: The Internet is a means to build interpersonal relationships, but the risk of Internet addictive behaviors exists. In this study, we intended to explore the relationship between attachment styles and Internet addictive behaviors. Methods: We administered the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale-R and the Adult At-tachment Scale to 184 college students. Results: As for other addictive behaviors, insecure attachment styles were significantly to have positive relation to Internet addictive behaviors (r = 0.25, p < 0.01), whereas secure attachment style was sig-nificantly to have negative relation to Internet addictive behaviors. With the inter-nal working model, the self model underlying attachment style was significantly to have negative relation to Internet addictive behaviors (r = -0.36, p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study shows that the Internet addictive behaviors were related nega-tive to the positive self model attachment style. We suggest the findings of this study could be considered for Internet addiction prevention. |
