Hasegawa Dementia Scale Revised (HDS-R) was invented in Japan. Now its revised version is the most popular screening test for dementia in Japan. In this issue of the Taiwanese Journal of Psychiatry, I am pleased to read the paper “The Revised Hasegawa’s Dementia Scale (HDS-R) as a Screening Tool for Delirium” , in which Chen and her associates successfully expanded the use of HDS-R. Inspired by the paper, I accepted Winston W. Shen’s invitation to write a compan-ion editorial specifically to explain the initial and revised development of HDS during the time when psychogeriatric research began in Japan. |
