The study compared the quality of leukoreduced apheresis platelets and non-leukoreduced platelets during same storage period. Forty eligible subjects were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the groups of pre-storage leukoreduced or non- leukoreduced apheresis platelets. Samplings were carried out for 0, 1, 3 and 5 days from two groups to test aggregation of ADP, collagen, hypotonic shock response (HSR), extent of shape change (ESC), pH, pCO2, pO2, glucose, and lactate. Results showed that no significant difference in levels of ESC, pO2 and lactate in both samplings from different groups, and pH in both platelets products maintained at acceptable level (≧6.2) up to 5 days. However, level of HSR showed significantly higher in pre-storage leukoreduced apheresis platelets than in non-leukoreduced platelets at 0, 1 and 3 days (p<0.05). This study indicates that there is no impairment in terms of platelet quality after pre-storage leukoreduced process. |
