Teaching Hospital Organization System of the Catholic Medical Center in Korea

Medical speciality board is one of main training system in United States of America. After Second World War the medical Education in Korea has been organized in a style of America, and the medical speciality board was established in 1952. For the first time, the Minister of Health and Welfare nominated specialists in consider of their career especially in the general hospital in accordance with their application until 1959, and in 1960 this system has been changed to examination style. The Korean Hospital Association participates more closely since 1968, and the Training Hospital Accreditation Committee has been settled. This committee surveys all training hospital yearly with a definite standard. (Table 1) (on page 4) Since that time the candidate for specialist among graduates of medical school (6 years) has been requested 1 year internship and 4 years residency training course in the approved training hospital and then pass the examination.
