Taiwan has accumulated multiple product patents related to intellectual property over the years; and the quantity as well as the quality of these products are favorably recognized in significant global competitions. The idea of transforming these ‘fruits of creativity’ into ‘fruits of business’ has gradually become the next emphasis in the development of design, and is among the major issues in the field of design education in Taiwan. The author of this paper has greatly benefitted from the financial incentives provided by Taiwan, including award monies from international competition, scholarships for elite exchange projects, and much more. The author has received more than a hundred prestigious awards during his studies in New York, and has now returned to Taiwan, engaging in the area of design education. This paper is mainly focused on the realities of international competition, and the design of curricula concerning product design. In the process, an overview of the design education experiences of Taiwan is also shared. |
