Postoperative pain is the most common problem of surgical patients. Adequate management of postoperative pain is humanistic for patients. Nurses are the first group of professionals to come into contact with patients, they are expected to be knowledgeable about pain management. Reviewing the relevant literatures, the effect of postoperative pain in surgical patients, the importance of preoperative pain education, and the assessment of pain, and pain management after surgery are presented in this article. It is hoped that, the quality of nursing care in surgical patients will be improved if nurses can manage patient’s postoperative pain adequately. |
