Objective: To explore the perceived causes of sports injuries and their relationship with the four factors influencing the choice of medical treatment among the public. Methods: The study employed a questionnaire survey. The subject of this questionnaire is individuals who have suffered sports injuries in sports grounds throughout Tainan. A total of 884 valid questionnaires were recovered. Our self-designed, 23-item questionnaire survey includes demographic data, sports type, activity leading to injuries, perceived cause, affected area, acute/chronic injury and the four factors influencing the choice of medical treatment (environment, facility, medical expertise, service attitude, medical expense and waiting). With the fundamental variables including demographic data controlled, multiple regression was used to analyze the relationship between variables (including sports type, activity leading to injuries, perceived cause, affected area, acute injury, and chronic injury) and the four factors influencing the choice of medical treatment. Results: Most sports-type activity leading to injuries, perceived causes, affected areas, acute injuries, and chronic injuries have significant relationships with the four factors influencing the choice of medical treatment. Conclusion: The public can benefit from self-detection of sports injuries and the consultation of medical institution at the right moment, as these actions facilitate the planning of medical treatment and the strengthening of physical abilities. By taking the initiative in the prevention, instruction and education on sports injury, medical institutions are expected to improve the public's awareness about sports injury. |
