Since the Obama Administration, U.S. not only declared that it will “return to Asia”, but also moved its strategic focus to this region. In fact, China’s recent rising and on influence to U.S.’s hegemonic status is mainly the origin and aim of this new policy, whereby the latter does try to contain Mainland China through strengthening its traditional alliance system. As Japan plays a crucial role in U.S.’s regional strategy, it must be a key role in deciding the outcome of this policy. In this paper, I’ll review first the development of the U.S.-Japan alliance and its possible future, and then try to observe how Japan’s national interests will influence its response to U.S. |
