The article described the author’s nursing experience of a patient with Fournier's gangrene in ICU after debridement surgery, which lasted from November 20th to December 7th, 2013. The author assessed and collected the patient’s verbal and nonverbal data through clinical observation, interview and direct nursing care, and evaluated the data using Gordon 11 functional health patterns. The following health issues were identified: existing infection, pain, body image disturbance, and anxiety. The author employed nursing techniques such as empathy, acceptance, positive encouragement, accompaniment and listening to provide the patient with individual care and fully utilize the non-routine nursing functions. These nursing techniques assisted the patient to accept physical alterations with positive attitude, and regain the courage to face life. |
