The article described a nursing experience of a patient diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma suffering from oral complication induced by radiotherapy. The nursing period was from August 1st to 16^(th), 2013. Through compressive evaluation, observation, physical assessment, consultation, and chart review, the health problems, established based on Gordon 11 functional health pattern, included oral complication induced by radiotherapy, malnutrition, and hopelessness. A model of interdisciplinary team was applied. During the nursing period, pain induced by oral mucositis was eased by adjusting dietary pattern. The calorie requirement was gradually met by offering various dietary instructions, and designing basic goals of food intake to build the patient’s confidence and self-control through gradual and progressive achievements. The author also conducted a guided life review and set up the survival plan to prepare the patient for the adverse impact that came with the disease and to actively accept treatment. |
