This article examines the nursing experience of caring for a married woman who suffered repeated assaults by a coworker's brother over one year. The sexual assaults happened during the period of time when the victim's husband was in jail. The victim found she was pregnant because of this misfortune and shared her experience with her husband. She was brought to the emergency department by her husband for evidence collection. The author collected data using the Newton System Model as an assessment tool from November 19 to December 19, 2010. The identified health problems were posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and an inability to cope. The individual nursing measures included encouraging the victim to express and ventilate internal feelings and emotions, listening to the victim's expression of internal feelings, providing support and resources related to social service, and assisting the victim in facing life with a new positive attitude and getting out of the shadow of sexual assault. Through a phone follow up, the victim gradually recovered her life. The author hopes that this case report can serve as a reference for other nurses who care for similar cases. |
