In recent years, domestic airlines have mostly developed in the direction of expanding their fleets. Therefore, planning issues related to the number of aircraft are more complicated. Tail assignment is the problem of assigning specific aircraft to flights. If an airline with a large fleet size does not consider system optimization when making tail assignments, it results in a waste of resources. At the worst, it could make a misjudgment of insufficient resources. Therefore, this research takes the point of view of system optimization, under the restriction that all flight services that can be served are assigned, considering flight hours balanced among aircraft and related operating restrictions. We employ network flow techniques and mathematical programming to construct a tail assignment network model. Finally, numerical tests and sensitivity analyses are performed using the data associated with an airline. The results show that the proposed model can provide decision-makers to be an aid tool for tail assignment. |
