This paper investigated the effect of residents' birthplace on place attachment (place identity and place dependence), and perception of tourism development (economic interest, public infrastructure, environmental burden, and life burden). We presented results from 1024 residents of the Kinmen County. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, variance analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. We observed that (1) place attachment (place identity and place dependence) had a significant positive effect on the perception of tourism development (economic interest, public infrastructure, and life burden); and (2) birthplace had a moderating effect on the relationship between place dependence within place attachment and economic interest within the perception of tourism development. This research provides scales with good reliability and validity to measure place attachment and perception of tourism development for future studies. |
