This article offered some lifestyle suggestions for prostate cancer patients in two parts: (1) dietary supplement; (2) moderate exercise. As to dietary supplement, lycopene in Tomato, sulforaphane in broccoli, catechin, epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) and epicatechin in green tea, isoflavones in soybeans, ellagitannins in pomegranate juice, polyunsaturated fats in fish, vitamin D, boron, aspirin, statins and metformin have been proved to decrease the incidence of prostate cancer, or to suppress the growth of cancer cells. As to moderate exercise, studies have shown that it can lower the incidence of prostate cancer. Obese male with body mass index (BMI) over 30 kg/m^2 may also suffer from higher risk of getting prostate cancer. One should keep exercising for 30 minutes a day and do weight exercise at least once or twice a week. He should also pay as much attention to his cholesterol as to his serum prostatic specific antigen (PSA) level. In summary, adequate dietary supplement and exercise can help to prevent prostate cancer and to improve the prognosis. |
