E-commerce is the sale of products and services over the Internet. It is a growing segment of our economy which also plays an important role in the knowledge economy. In the recent development of e-commerce, specifically after the 2009 American Financial Crisis, e-commerce has emerged as an important new trend. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating the research trend of e-commerce in Taiwan and focuses on the “Index to Taiwan Periodical Literature System”. Through an extensive literature review and comprehensive content analysis of 304 scholarly journals and 1050 e-commerce related papers from 1970 to 2011, the research findings are (1) 269 e-commerce papers were published in 2000, which is the largest amount of papers published on e-commerce related subjects in recent years, (2) The largest category was the “support and implantation” category, which had 630 papers published, accounting for 60% in total, of which consists mainly 166 papers from 2000, and 126 papers from 2001 (3) From 1995 to 2011, the main research topic concentrated on “support and implementation,” which means there are still plenty of uncultivated regions on “application area” and “technological issues”. The findings of this paper will help future researchers to identify priorities and provide the references in business management for vendors specializing in e-commerce. |
