Caring behaviors provide humanistic and integrated nursing and treatment at the same time. This study probed the differences between nurses’ performances and patients’ feeling about caring behaviors. The cases in this cross-sectional study were the nurses and the patients at a teaching hospital in southern Taiwan. A constructional questionnaire was used as the instrument that included basic information and caring behavior scale. SPSS 13.0 with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were utilized to test the research hypotheses. Results were as follows: Patients thought that nurses’ caring to patents reached the level of often, as nurses reported that their caring was at sometimes level. Questionnaire showed that most patients chose “helping the patients through the trajectory of illness.” On the other hand, most nurses chose “knowing the patient” and “helping the patients through the trajectory of illness.” The results suggest that nurse administrators can positively encourage nurses on the caring of patients. Besides, the authorities can develop indicators showing the patients’ needs on caring behaviors to reach a consistent perception on caring behaviors between nurses and patients. |
