Methodology: A Dialetic on Quantity and Quality

本研究旨在探討質與量的方法論問題，以期釐清兩者之間的糾結。為達此目的，本研究運用學理分析，以文獻整理，詮釋和分析為主。首先探討質與量研究方法的歷史發展，以瞭解其思想淵源；其次分析其方法論基礎，以究明其研究假定和理論本質；再次敘及其方法之論辯，以說明兩者間之糾結；最後乃指出質與量研究方法的分立與聯結。

This paper explores the quantitative-qualitative debate in the field of social science research. Each approach is reviewed in terms of the work of its major proponents. The distinctions between the methodology of two paradigms would be presented. By analysing the philosophical basis, the study shows a holistical perspective, it allows for recommendations that focus on a complement of quantitative and qualitative methods.
