Modernization has become a major national goal for most of the governments all over the world. In China, the quest for modernization was initiated by Dr.Sun Yat-sen and was gradually achieved by the late President Chiang Kai-shek. The modernization in the field of education has resulted in many policy reforms and thereby has contributed to social and national development. The educational modernization in China is directed by the pedagogic ideals of the Three Principles of the People. It follows the guidance of this surpassed principle and develops toward the goal of establishing a democratic, scientific, well-planned and genuine Chinese education. This paper comprises four parts. The first one examines the meaning and contents of modernization. The second one presents the guidelines for educational modernization in China. The third one explores the direction of Chinese educational modernization. The last part points out the new task for modernization in the process of national developments. |
