With the increasingly open and pluralistic society, Taiwan is more than ever before faced with various issues on the care for new immigrants and the aged, such as domestic violence, abuse, the heightened public awareness of human rights and personal interests, and the implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code and cross-examination system. It has also been these issues that, in turn, prompted Taiwan's nursing community to pay more and more attention to forensic nursing. Forensic nurses testify at court proceedings regarding the collection, preservation and analysis of evidence and have come to assume a significant role in many criminal cases by assisting law enforcement officers with the court evidence that they have to offer. Forensic nursing in Taiwan is still in its initial stage. The primary purpose of this article is to introduce forensic science into clinical medical education as it has become an urgent requirement. This article intends to discuss the forensic patient and the problem and challenge in clinical setting, and to propose the development needs and the professional working contents in forensic nursing. Finally, the results of this article point to some possible suggestions for education, clinical and future research in this field. |
