Practicing Public Sociology by Participating in Social Movements

I agree with some comments made by other sociologists, publishing on the same issue along with Burawoy's paper on Social Forces, that the division of sociological labor might not be as distinct as the four categories being displayed in Table I in his paper. However, as Burawoy himself admitted, it should be seen as an idea type for further discussion and revisions. By all means I believe we should feel delighted that Burawoy's paper provides a great opportunity to start public debates among sociologists about this long-overlooked subject.
