Photodynamic Therapy for Thoracic Malignancy

光動力治療在胸腔惡性腫瘤的應用已經逐漸普遍，雖然它的臨床角色尚未獲得確定，但是就目前文獻所累積的經驗顯示，它對早期食道癌與中心型肺癌，可提供與手術切除類似的長期存活成效，而其併發症與治療後的恢復速度，則是明顯地優於傳統手術。但是這些臨床成果，由於無法排除病患選擇的偏差因素，因此光動力治療在胸腔腫瘤的治療成效，仍有待進一步臨床研究的確定。

Photodynamic therapy has gradually gained its popularity for treating thoracic malignancy. Although its clinical role has not well established, the experiences from the literature has demonstrated its long-term survival benefit in treating early esophageal or central-located lung cancer, similar to that provided by surgical resection. Comparing with surgical resection, photodynamic therapy takes the advantage of less complication rate and better post-treatment recovery. However, due to the presence of case-selection bias, these clinical results of PDT in treating thoracic malignancy remained to be elucidated by further clinical studies in the future.
