Photodynamic therapy has gradually gained its popularity for treating thoracic malignancy. Although its clinical role has not well established, the experiences from the literature has demonstrated its long-term survival benefit in treating early esophageal or central-located lung cancer, similar to that provided by surgical resection. Comparing with surgical resection, photodynamic therapy takes the advantage of less complication rate and better post-treatment recovery. However, due to the presence of case-selection bias, these clinical results of PDT in treating thoracic malignancy remained to be elucidated by further clinical studies in the future. |
