The bisphosphonates are a class of antiresorptive agents that are approved to treat multiple skeletal disorders including osteoporosis (postmenopausal and steroid-induced), malignancy-associated bone disease, and Paget’s disease of bone. Bisphosphonates, which are excreted via the kidneys, may accumulate in patients with diminished renal function, and toxicity may occur. There have been several reports of acute renal toxicity following bisphosphonate treatment. Therefore, clinicians should carefully evaluate the use of these drugs. |
