Hospice care is one of the best care models for terminal patients. To promote the concept of hospice care to the general ward is important for terminal cancer patients’ early awareness and acceptance of hospice care. Hospice-shared care was introduced to Taiwan in 2004. Hospice-shared care has provided early hospice consultation and combined care with original care team in the general ward. This care model has been increasingly recognized in recent years. In addition, several studies in Taiwan have demonstrated that hospice-shared care can significantly improve the quality of life and quality of care in terminal cancer patients. Meanwhile, the health care expenditure of hospice-shared care is much less than that of conventional care. With the increasing awareness of hospice care among community residents, the future goal is to extend hospice-shared care from terminal cancer patients to non-cancer patients with terminal illness. In conclusion, the promotion of hospice care is important not only for hospital staffs, but also for community residents. |
