Kaohsiung Blood Center lies in the southern part of Taiwan. The areas under whose coverage include Kaohsiung City, Kaohsiung County, Pingtung County, and Penghu County. During the year of 2007, there were 3,743,227 people within the jurisdiction of Kaohsiung Blood Center, among which 311,133 people have ever been donating, and donation rate was 8.3%. Kaohsiung City is a modernized metropolis district, and residents make a living mainly by industry, commerce and service industry. The residents of rural areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung County live on agriculture and those of Penghu County on fishery. To realize the prevalence of chylomicronemia in Kaohsiung Blood Center, we reviewed all the donors data from computerized database in 2007, and employed chi-square test to define the statistical difference. We found the prevalence of chylomicronemia of men is 4 times as much as that of women; the heavier one weighs the more potential incidence of chylomicronemia one has, and donors above 30 y/o and with abnormal ALT values have higher incidence of chylomicronemia. The prevalence of chylomicronemia is irrelevant to blood type and residential areas but occupation makes a difference, and the highest prevalence belongs to people in farming and fishery up to 3.7%, secondary laborers 2.3% and the lowest students 0.4%. |
