The objective of this cross-sectional study is to explore the factors associated with the willingness of volunteer workers in participating home care services for discharged patients. A total of 352 volunteers involved in volunteering services at 18 community health centers in Chiayi county in southern Taiwan were invited to complete a questionnaire during the period of April 1 to April 10, 2006. The response rate was 89% (315 subjects). Results from multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that volunteers who resided in the mountainous areas expressed significantly greater interests to provide home care services to the discharged patients as compared with those who resided in the maritime areas. The nine type of services included the follow-up home care assistance, care-giving, blood pressure monitoring, paperwork assistance, walk or exercise escort, medications reminding, home sanitation, and care assistance. Results from this study can provide policymakers a basis when for planning resource allocations of volunteer training programs as a way to improve the quality of home care services. |
