The purpose of this research is to study fatigue level and its related factors of lung cancer patients during chemotherapy. A cross-sectional correlation design and purposive sampling were used. The patients were recruited from three teaching hospitals, located in the East, the North and the West of Taiwan respectively. A total of 75 valid questionnaires were completed. The result indicated that subjects suffered from a middle level of fatigue during the chemotherapy, and although fatigue was the second major side effect, it is the most bothering factor on the patients. Subjects also hade mild depression and syndrome distress. There are significant differences among the fatigue level, the number of times of chemotherapy and the days after latest chemotherapy. There is a negative correlation between the hemoglobin levels and the fatigue levels. There is a significant positive correlation between the syndrome distress, depression and fatigue. Moreover, syndrome distress and depression are significant predictors of fatigue, accounting for 47.8% of variance. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that fatigue levels were significantly associated with syndrome distress and depression, and the result can offer healthcare provider a guide to improve patient’s quality of life during chemotherapy. |
