The article described a the nursing experience of a breast-feeding mother, who was suffering from multiple psychological stress, since her entire family, aside from her husband, experienced recurrent scabies infection. The patient exhibited negative emotions like crying, denial and despair at the outpatient department, and the overwhelming stress had resulted reduced milk production from 1,000 c.c. per day to 200 c.c. per day. The nursing period lasted from February 13rd to April 30th, 2013. The author assessed the patient on physiological, psychological, social and spiritual level, and with interventions of nursing and role function, the following issues were identified: 1) knowledge deficit on the handling and prevention of recurrent scabies infection; 2) caregiver role strain caused by recurrent infection, peer pressure and family support deficit. The author utilized interview, phone interview, text message, listening, on-site scabies prevention guidelines and psychological support to accompany the patient through her child’s treatment, and to assist in disease control and improvement. The patient eventually rid the recurrent scabies infection and regained quality life. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2015; 14:3, 93-102) |
