The case study described a nursing experience regarding a head injury patient and her primary caregiver applying Watson’s theory. From March 14 to March 22 in 2008, the patient was assessed by holistic physical examination, through means of interviews and observations, to collect the patient and her primary caregiver’s physical, mental, social, and spiritual issues. The primary health problems of the patient had being identified as hyperthermia and impaired physical mobility. In addition, her caregiver also had deficient knowledge and role strain regarding to health issues. The author enacted the roles not only a primary nurse, but also a connector, a consulter, an instructor and a listener; furthermore, Watson’s theory had been applied in conjunction with therapeutic nursing activities which included science, humanities, knowledge and techniques, assisted both the patient and the caregivers to achieve higher state of health in terms of physical, mental, social and spiritual aspects. |
