This article described an emergency nursing experience with a woman suffering from domestic violence. The patient came to the emergency room for help by herself and complained that she injured herself in a fall from her motorcycle. Later after wound care, she confessed to the nurse that in fact her husband abused her. The medical group of emergency care offered immediate protection and isolation measures. We applied Watson's caring philosophy and used the methods of guided interview, listening and observation to collect data, and found that the major health problems of this case included fear, ineffective coping, and hopelessness. We accepted the patient's emotions and replied her questions with an objective attitude, built trust in the therapeutic relationship, and offered a safe environment to ensure the patient's personal privacy and sense of security. We also referred the patient to the social workers so that she could receive complete care and protection, solve the ensuing family problems and avoid domestic violence. |
